What’s healthier: Indian or Thai food?
Question by Janapix14: What’s healthier: Indian or Thai food?
What’s healthier in the weight loss sense?
I know it depends on what meal you have, but I’m looking for a general idea of what’s healthier.
I know that thai food uses a lot of coconut milk whereas indian food has a lot of curd & ghee (yoghurt and clarified butter)

Q&A: How can I substitute foods into my new raw and vegan lifestyle without missing out on my favorites?
Question by Fuchsia: How can I substitute foods into my new raw and vegan lifestyle without missing out on my favorites?
I’m getting into a raw and vegan lifestyle but sometimes miss my favorite flavors. I found a few good substitutes for healthy raw food and vegan foods here http://www.rawontheroad.com/raw-foods-for-weight-loss-raw-food-substitutes/ but want to know if anyone out there has other favorite vegan or raw food substitutes.

I know this answer won’t completely resolve your question, but I think a lot of the best recipes are ones that aren’t pretending to be something else. For instance, in Veganomicon, a vegan cookbook I highly recommend, they have a recipe for Pumpkin Baked Ziti, which is delicious! And it resembles nothing in the Carnivore World! haha
Other than that though, the internet and health food stores are a good source for other substitutes. Good luck!

Yes Pinto beans are very good for us lots of fiber!
2 cups(16 ounces or equal to a whole can), of mashed pinto beans is 240 cal in all 0 fat. compared to 350 cal in the can, would be better in calories if you mashed them. But all in all thats not bad either way.!

Any great recipes for a spicy red chili?
Question by ridinghipshot: Any great recipes for a spicy red chili?
I would like a recipe for chili using fresh chiles
Please specify what type of chiles…and I do like it hot!
Best answer:
Answer by kora_tori
3 lbs lean beef
1/8 pound rendered beef kidney suet (if you want to go for it)
1 tsp each oregano, cumin powder, salt, cayenne pepper, and Tabasco
3 tbsp chile powder (optional)
4 hot chile peppers
At least two chopped cloves of garlic
2 tsp masa harina, cornmeal, or flour (optional)
Sear beef in a 4qt+ Dutch oven or skillet. You may need a little oil to prevent the meat from sticking. When the meat is all gray, add suet and chile peppers and about two inches of liquid (you can use water, I use beer). Simmer for 30 min. Add spices and garlic, bring to boil, lower heat and simmer for 45 minutes. Add more liquid only to keep the mix from burning. Skim off as much grease as you can, and add masa harina. Simmer for another 30 minutes. Taste and adjust spices if necessary.
WARNING: this is spicy chili, so leave out some of the spicy stuff in the beginning if you have a tender tongue. At this point, I refrigerate the chili overnight which allows the chili to mellow and you can skim off all the grease.

Q&A: What is a good way to saute vegetables?
Question by aml0017: What is a good way to saute vegetables?
First off, let me say that I am NOT a cook, I can make toast mainly. However, lately I have been on a weight loss/health improvement schtick with lots of fresh fruits veggies, lean meats, etc. you get the idea. I usually eat my veggies raw or steamed. However, I want a little variety, so I thought maybe I could saute some for my dinner, with grilled chicken or fish. I especially want to try those that I don’t eat as much raw, like zucchini, squash, eggplant, etc.
Anyway, can I use olive oil since it is a healthy oil? What kind should I use? What is a good seasoning? Remember, I need it to be healthy and simple. Also, what is a good sauteeing method as far as heat, pan to use, etc.
Any help??

Here’s an idea for you ~
Great sauteed vegetables
7 asparagus spears, cut 1 inch long
2 carrots, cut 1/2 inch long
1 medium onion, quartered
1 medium red bell pepper, cut 1 inch squares
1/2 cup cauliflower, in bite size pieces
1 stalk celery, cut 1/2 inch long
1 medium yellow squash, cut to equal size as celery
1/8 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon white pepper (powder)
2 tablespoons basil
2 tablespoons white wine
Pam cooking spray
Spay Pam in large heavy skillet add vegetables then add spices.
Cook over medium high heat about 4 minutes stirring often.
Add Wine and cover for 3 minutes more, stir once every minute.
Remove from heat to stop cooking and serve on warmed plate.
Don’t cook to long covered as this will create to much steam thus releasing the water soluble vitamins into the air instead of your body.
